Mages’ Guild Level 4

The lowest level of the Mages’ Guild is completely submerged in water. You can navigate through it safely if you cast a Water Breathing spell or have Helmets of Water Breathing. If not you’ll take damage with every step you take. The north west corner of this level is a no mana zone. Spells won’t work here, including water breathing spells.

The two enemies you’ll find here are Water Elementals and Slithermorphs. Neither have any magical resistance but they hit hard. When you are done on this level you’ll need to head back to level 3 and face the lich.

W) Water Elementals.

S) Slithermorphs.

1) Use the Grappling Hook on the grate in the ceiling to climb back up to Mages’ Guild Level 3 location 11.

2) Use the Grappling Hook on the grate in the ceiling to climb back up to Mages’ Guild Level 3 location 8.

3) Use the Grappling Hook on the grate in the ceiling to climb back up to Mages’ Guild Level 3 location 9.

4) Use the Grappling Hook on the grate in the ceiling to climb back up to Mages’ Guild Level 3 location 10.

5) Use the Grappling Hook on the grate in the ceiling to climb back up to Mages’ Guild Level 3 location 12.

6) A Dagger +3 and Wand of Ice Storm.

7) Press the Secret Button to remove the wall to the south. This reveals another Secret Button. Press it to remove the second wall to the south.

8) Long Sword +4 and Potion of Giant Strength.

9) On the floor you’ll find Plate Mail +2, a Shield +3 and a Bow.

10A-C) The water valves at 10A push the party towards 10B. Use the levers at 10C to reverse the flow. You’ll need Strength of 22 or Thieves’ Tools to use the levers.

11) On the floor you’ll find a Yellow Gem, a Mace +2 and Helm +2.

12A-B) The water valve at 12A pushes the party to the north. Use the lever at 12B to turn it off.

13A-C) The water valve at 13A pushes the party to 13B. Pull the lever at 13C to change the direction of the flow.

14) A Stone Key, Long Sword and two Daggers +2.

15) On the floor you’ll find Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength.

16) Scale Mail +2 and two Potions of Healing.

17A-C) Use a Copper Key to open the door to the south of 17A. The water valve at 17B will push you back through the door. Use the lever at 17C to turn the water valve off.

18) If you step onto the iron grates in the floor you’ll be hit with a lightning bolt and sent to location 19.

19) Press the Secret Button on the south wall to make it disappear.

20) The teleporter will send the party to Mages’ Guild Level 1 location 29.

21) The niche in the south wall has a Crimson Key. The niche in the north wall has a Red Gem. On the ground you can find a Mage Scroll of Time Stop and Power Word Kill as well as Leather Armor and four Darts +1.

22) Place a Stone Key in the niche to open the door to the west. Once you go through you’ll enter a magic dead zone.

23) A Copper Key, Wand of Lightning Bolts and Bracers of Protection +4.

24) A Helm of Underwater Breathing, two Potions of Healing and two Arrows +3.

25) A Potion of Giant Strength and a Helm +1.

26A-C) The water valve at 26A pushes the party south and the valve at 26B pushes the party west. The plaque at 26C says “A wall shall serve to stay the flow and a gem shall serve as a key.” Place a Wall of Force in front of the water valve at 26A to get past to 27.

27) Place the Red Gem into the niche to open the door to the east.

28) Press the Secret Button to open the door to the east.

29) Ring of Protection +3, Shield +1 and two Rations.

30) Place the Crimson Key into the niche to open the door to the east.
