Path of Exile 2 has been released for Early Access by Grinding Gear Games and is the latest release in the action RPG genre. It’s set in the years following the original game and takes place in the same world, Wraeclast, as you try to rid the world of darkness.

Early Access is expected to last for at least 6 months. During this time there will be some rebalancing of character builds, items and the economy. The Early release version already includes a campaign that runs for three Acts. During the campaign you’ll face dozens of bosses and hundreds of enemy types.

The full release will feature three more Acts with 6 new classes, tons of items and skill gems, more endgame content including new bosses and monsters. It will be about twice the size of the Early Access version. Path of Exile 2 will be Free to Play once it’s released but you can purchase it to play now as an Early Access Supporter.

The classes available at Early Access are the Monk, Ranger, Mercenary, Witch and Sorceress. You’ll choose one character and then head out into the world to defeat the Count of Ogham who is attempting to harness the corruption for his own gain.

The full game will have an amazing 100 Bosses with 600 enemy types. You’ll face them as you make your way through the six Acts which take place over 100 different environment types.
There will be 12 classes to choose from in total. These are made up by combining Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence in different ways. Skills from different classes can be combined so you’ll have some flexibility when designing your own character build.

On top of the 12 character classes you’ll have Ascendency Classes. There’s 3 for each character class for a combined total of 36 Ascendency Classes.

Path of Exile 2 uses a Skill Gem system. This is made up of 240 Active Skills and 200 Support Gems to modify these active skills. This has been designed to remove some of the frustration from the first game while keeping the depth.

Every area of the campaign has its own unique boss. You’ll fight, and hopefully defeat them, with a staggering 700 equipment base types. Each of these equipment types has its own unique item for you to find somewhere in the world.

The developers have assured gamers that Path of Exile 2 will never be pay to win. It will be free to play on full release and any purchases will be shared between the two games.

Path of Exile 2 shows promise for its full release although you can expect some bugs and balancing issues. Some tech issues have also been reported on the first day of release. Hopefully if you do purchase the supporter pack you’ll have a smooth run through the first 3 Acts.
