Get ready to enter the world of Harry Potter in this immersive, open-world action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, which has just been released for the PC, PS5 and Xbox. Hogwarts Legacy takes you back to the 1800s as a student. You’ll craft potions, cast spells and find magical beasts as you ultimately decide the fate of the wizarding world.

If you enjoy role-playing games or the Harry Potter world than you’ll enjoy Hogwarts Legacy. Avalanche Software have done a wonderful job recreating the atmosphere of the original films.

You’ll reside in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You’ll take part in classes to learn spells and craft potions, wander the hallways to familiar places and interact with your classmates.

Hogwarts Legacy isn’t limited to the school area. You can visit locations outside the school such as the Hogsmeade Village, Forbidden Forest and others. Visually the environment fits perfectly with the Harry Potter movies and you’ll feel like you’re a part of the wizarding world.

The game features over 100 optional side quests as well as the main quest line that you need to complete to finish the story. As you follow the main quest you’ll be encouraged to take detours and explore more of the world. Most of the time you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

In the beginning you’ll be travelling by foot to each location. Later on you’ll unlock what are called Floo Flames. They act as fast travel points. You can also find a flying broomstick and flying mounts to travel faster and still see the world around you.

Exploration will reward you with new gear and items so it’s worthwhile looking around before rushing straight to the next objective.

Combat centers around casting spells that you learn as you progress through the game. Spells can be chained together to incapacitate your opponent while continuing to deal damage. You can defend by using counterspells or dodging out of the way by rolling. The combat system is difficult but rewards skill.

Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t follow the same stories that have been told in the books but creates something new. Not knowing how it ends you won’t feel like you’re just following a script. This is sure to appeal to the Harry Potter fans.

You’ll have the opportunity to customize your own character. This includes the body, clothes and accessories. You can use the best equipment but visually keep the appearance of other items that you find more appealing. This means you can keep the best stats while keeping the look you want.

Performance on Xbox and PS5 seems to be find but there are some issues on PC. Some of the issues have included stuttering, textures not loading correctly and crashes. These issues may have been fixed by the time you read this review.

While Hogwarts Legacy is an open world game there will be some loading screens when you fast travel and when you go through some doors. The loading screens are typically very short, especially if you have the game on a SSD drive.

As you explore the world of Hogwarts Legacy you’ll consistently find equipment upgrades. These will mostly increase your offense or defense, while some have other effects.

If you’ve ever wanted to explore the wizarding world for yourself, or just enjoy a good RPG you’ll want to check out Hogwarts Legacy for PC, PS5 or Xbox. It takes about 30 hours to complete if you’re mostly following the main story and up to 50 hours if you want to explore everything.
