Back to Hollow Knight

Queen’s Gardens

The Queen’s Gardens is in the western part of Hallownest and is filled with Mantis Traitors and thorns. This is where you find half of the Kingsoul from the White Lady, 3 Grubs in very difficult places and the Love Key for the City of Tears.

If you’re entering from the Fog Canyon head to the left, down and then to the right. Make your way around to find the Map Maker who’ll give you the map for this area. There’s also a Bench in this area.

To get to the Love Key you’ll need to open the gate below the passage where you went to find Cornifer. To make it to the lever you’ll have to make a few tricky jumps around some thorns. Once the gate is opened you can make your way down and to the right to the Love Key.

From the Love Key head all the way to the left for the next Bench. You’ll need to dodge past a number of Mantis Traitors while jumping from platform to platform over a cavern of thorns. The path down near the Bench leads to Deepnest.

From the Bench go right and take the next exit up. There’s a Grub just above but you’ll need to go left first, up and then through a secret to the right to find it.

Just above is the Stag Station but it’s locked from this side. You’ll need to make your way up and around to the left. When you’re at the far western end break the roof above and jump up between the spikes to the second Grub. Drop down and make your way down and to the left to meet a dream boss.

Marmu

Marmu is a very strange creature and only has one attack. He’ll hurl himself at you but can be batted away by using your nail. Keep hitting him like a balloon until he’s defeated. Speak with him again to be rewarded with 150 Essence.

Just to the right is a passage leading to the Stag Station in this area. If this is the last Stag Station talk to the Stag and he’ll offer to take you to the Stag Nest where you can find a Vessel Shard.

The last Grub is found by jumping your way to the very top of the Queen’s Gardens. This Grub is probably the most difficult in the game to reach. You’ll need to use the super dash a few times while avoiding the spikes below. Use Vengeful Spirit to kill the Mossfly that are hovering about in the path of your dash.

Traitor Lord

The Traitor Lord is found in the top left side of the map. You’ll need to have the Shade Cloak before you can reach him. After the latest update this boss has been buffed, making him a far more difficult challenge.

The Traitor Lord has 800 health and 2 melee and 2 ranged attacks. The melee attacks are a dash towards you and a jumping dive diagonally in your direction. The ranged attacks are the Dancing Glaive where two orange blades go zigzagging towards you and a radiant Wave where shockwaves rise up and quickly move towards you. The only way to avoid them is with shadow dash through them.

The Traitor Lord’s attacks and body contact all cause 2 points of damage, making this fight much more difficult. His attacks are also so quickly that your shade cloak won’t have time to recharge before he dashes at you again. Your best chance is to hit him once and then jump over him.

Once he’s been defeated you’ll be given access to the White Lady. After talking to her she’ll give you one half of the Kingsoul. You’ll need this half and the other half from the White Palace to enter the Birthplace.

Delivering the Delicate Flower

If you want the extra Mask Shard head back to the Resting Grounds and speak to the Grey Mourner. She will give you a flower to deliver to a grave in the Queen’s Gardens. If you take damage and lose the flower don’t worry as you can always come back and get another one. Use a Dream Gate outside the Grey Mourner’s house so you can quickly teleport back. After delivering the flower come back to the Grey Mourner for your reward.
